AIG Women's British Open

The AIG Women's British Open, will be played at Royal Troon from 20-23 August 2020. There is a lot of excitement surrounding the championship, which is the first major golf competition to take place in the UK this year.

Due to COVID-19 restrictions, this will be a closed event with no spectators. However, there will be TV coverage and highlights throughout the championship, so you won't miss out on the action.

COVID-19 measures

The R&A who organise the championship, has introduced measures to ensure the safety of those taking part, staff working at the event and the wider public.

Once players, caddies and other authorised personnel arrive at the golf course, they will stay on site. They will only leave Royal Troon, when they are transported back to their accommodation.

Nobody without prior permission, will be allowed to access Royal Troon. On site, robust physical distancing measures will be in place, and there will be enhanced levels of hygiene. There will be daily symptom and temperature checks for everyone on site. Face-masks will be used for all indoor areas and there will be ready access to sanitiser products. Medical staff will also be on hand, in case of emergencies.

Disruption to people living in and around Troon is expected to be minimal, however to ensure the event runs safely, some restrictions are in place:

Golf Course Access Restrictions

The Order can be viewed under the Land Reform (Scotland) Act to temporarily prohibit public access over Royal Troon Golf Course from 12 noon on Saturday, 15 August until 12 noon on Tuesday, 25 August. The Order can be viewed at https://www.south-ayrshire.gov.uk/outdooraccess/diversions-exemptions.aspx. Public access to South Beach will not be restricted, however there will not be any access to Royal Troon Golf Course from the beach.

Temporary closure of Troon South Beach Car Park

The car park, will temporarily close on Sunday 16 August until Monday 24 August. Pedestrian access to the beach and access to National Cycle Route 7 will not be affected.

Temporary road closure

Crosbie Road, from Craigend Road (B749) to its southernmost point. Access to properties and business premises will be maintained.

Residents

Residents living on Crosbie Road will still be allowed access.

Suncourt Care Home

Access to the Suncourt Care Home, will still be available to staff, residents, visitors and healthcare workers. Visitors will need a pass which should be applied for in advance from the on-site accreditation office phone line 01334 897001. The office opening hours (located at the car park on South Beach) are as follows:

The temporary road closure will be in place from 12:00 noon on Saturday 15 August - 12:00 noon on Tuesday 25 August.

Temporary waiting & loading restrictions

These restrictions will be in place on the following roads:

• Bentinck Close
• Bentinck Crescent
• Crosbie Road
• Lochend Drive
• Sarazen Drive
• Southwood Road
• Warrix Gardens
• Wemyss Crescent - both sides, for their entire length
• Bentinck Drive - both sides, from Craigend Road to Darley Crescent
• Craigend Road - both sides, from Monktonhill Road to South Beach
• Fullarton Crescent - both sides, from Fullarton Drive to Wemyss Crescent
• Fullarton Drive - both sides, from Craigend Road to Lochend Road
• South Beach - both sides, from Craigend Road, to its junction with Victoria Drive.

A number of exemptions are contained in the Order to allow for deliveries and other essential services to properties.

These temporary waiting and loading restrictions will be in place Monday 17 August - Sunday 23 August 6:00am - 9:00pm

Waste collections

Bin collections will not be affected, please present your bins as normal.

Temporary public right of way closure

Smugglers' Trail

There will be no public access along the Wrack Road part of the Smugglers' Trail, which runs across Royal Troon Golf Course.

An alternative route has been signposted, which will take pedestrians north along the Ayrshire Coastal Path (which will remain unaffected by the Championship), east along Craigend Road, and then south along National Cycle Route 7 to re-join the Wrack Road at Little Southwood in both directions.

This public right of way restriction will be in place from 12:00 noon on Saturday 15 August - 12:00 noon on Tuesday 25 August.
