A vision for Girvan - have your say!

People who live and work in Girvan are being invited to have their say on how to improve the town.

South Ayrshire Council and urban design specialists Create Streets are running a public drop-in session on Saturday 27 August at the Quay Zone in Girvan from 12 noon - 3:30pm.

This session will build on previous community engagement and is an opportunity for people to talk about what they like best and possible improvements.

During the session, conversations are expected on vacant and derelict sites, as well as shopfronts and the pavilion. Key areas such as Dalrymple Street and Knockcushan Street will also be hot topics.

Councillor Alec Clark, Tourism and Rural Affairs Portfolio Holder for South Ayrshire Council said: "We're committed to working with the community to help shape Girvan's future. People are passionate about the town, and we want to make sure their views are captured.

"This engagement will help us build a vision to improve the high street, protect and enhance the town's historic buildings and have public spaces for everyone to enjoy. Ultimately, we want a town that everyone can be proud of."

Councillor Bob Pollock, Economic Development Portfolio Holder for the Council said:" Over the years, our high streets have faced serious challenges as shopping patterns change. Retail still plays a big part, but we need to re-think and re-energise our town centres as places that meet the diverse social, economic, and environmental needs of our communities.

"This public engagement will explore how we do this. People know their towns best and I would encourage anyone with an interest in improving Girvan to go along and have their say."

Feedback from the sessions will be used to develop a strategy, which will go before Councillors in the future.
