New Free Crazy Golf Competition to be introduced in South Ayrshire
South Ayrshire Council is delighted to introduce a new Crazy Golf Competition across the local area during the summer months.
To celebrate the 152nd Open Championship at Royal Troon, The Crazy Golf Competition is a course with a difference, taking participants across South Ayrshire from Girvan to Troon, to tackle nine different putting holes, which represent key landmarks.
In true crazy golf fashion, players will pick up a scorecard from the specified locations and take to the nearby putting hole to try and avoid the obstacles in a bid to get a hole in one - or as many attempts as it takes. Once a team has completed all putting holes, players will receive a tee-riffic reward.
The locations and landmarks of the course are as follows:
Hole Number | Location | Town | Key Landmark |
1 | Troon Library | Troon | The Postage Stamp |
2 | Prestwick Library | Prestwick | Electric Brae |
3 | Carnegie Library | Ayr | Turnberry Lighthouse |
4 | Maybole Library | Maybole | Crossraguel Abbey |
5 | Grain Exchange | Ayr | Ayr Racecourse |
6 | Heritage Hub | Ayr | Dundonald Castle |
7 | Rozelle House | Ayr | Alloway Kirk |
8 | Rozelle House | Ayr | Brig O' Doon |
9 | Girvan Library | Girvan | Ailsa Craig |
The free competition will open on Tuesday 9 July until Tuesday 6 August 2024 and players must be aged 3 years and above.
South Ayrshire Council's Portfolio Holder for Sport and Leisure, Councillor Brian Connolly said: "Golf is an important part of South Ayrshire's culture and identity, so it's fitting that we celebrated this historic sport whilst the 152nd Open Championship is hosted at Royal Troon.
"The course is set out over nine different putting holes that will put players to the test whilst most importantly having fun, allowing everyone to get involved in the sport -albeit in a slightly different way to the professionals!"
South Ayrshire Council's Portfolio Holder for Tourism, Culture and Rural Affairs, Councillor Alec Clark said: "The Crazy Golf Competition will ensure fun for all ages and abilities, especially for families during the school holidays. We will be welcoming a significant number of visitors to Troon as a result of The Open, and this will provide visitors with the opportunity to see other parts of South Ayrshire as they tackle each putting hole.
"The course has been designed to reflect South Ayrshire's rich culture and heritage and we have chosen nine key landmarks that are largely synonymous with the area."
