Additional Support Needs expansion plans approved for Troon

NEWS UPDATED

At today's Cabinet meeting (18 February), Councillors approved plans for the expansion of education Additional Support Needs (ASN) services in Troon.

Results of a public consultation held at the end of last year showed overwhelming support for the provision of additional services based in Troon Primary School, which were outlined in the proposal.

Plans would see two classrooms at Troon Primary School turned into a dedicated space for ASN learning.

At present there are only three mainstream primary schools in South Ayrshire with ASN bases and none of these are north of Ayr.

The expansion would see the end of lengthy taxi journeys for ASN pupils living in and around Troon and would help to relieve pressure on the existing service.

Councillor William Grant, Education Portfolio Holder for South Ayrshire Council said: "I'm delighted that plans to expand South Ayrshire's ASN provision to support pupils living in Troon and the surrounding areas are set to progress."

"I look forward to seeing the new space established within Troon Primary School and thank the members of the community who participated in the consultation for sharing their views."
