Service held to mark International Workers' Memorial Day

International Workers' Memorial Day 2025

South Ayrshire Provost, Iain Campbell laid a floral tribute at the memorial bench at Rozelle Park in Ayr to mark International Workers' Memorial Day 2025.

International Workers' Memorial Day commemorates all workers who have lost their lives to workplace illness or injury.

This global initiative is also an opportunity to promote health and safety and minimise workplace incidents, many of which are preventable.

Last year to mark International Workers' Memorial Day, Depute Provost Mary Kilpatrick unveiled a memorial bench, and the previous year Provost Campbell helped plant a cherry tree to create an area for memoriam and reflection within Rozelle Park.

South Ayrshire Provost Iain Campbell said: "It is important to remember those who have lost their lives while at work, through either illness or injury. The peaceful space within Rozelle Park is a wonderful place to pay tribute.

"International Workers' Memorial Day provides an opportunity to reflect on the progress that has been made to improve workplace safety, and also to consider what positive changes can still be made."
