CCTV operation

South Ayrshire Council operates public space CCTV to assist with public safety, crime prevention, and enforcement.

The Council's CCTV operation must be justified, proportionate, and transparent. Our CCTV must comply with data protection requirements, and we have voluntarily adopted the guidelines devised by the Surveillance Camera Commissioner.

Another requirement is that we undertake a privacy impact assessment, and a key part of the assessment involves consultation with those under surveillance (the general public) and strategic partners (such as Police Scotland).

The short video below provides an overview of our public space CCTV operation, and the links on the page provide further related information.

(Please note that speed and traffic cameras do not fall under the remit of the Council. Please contact the Ayrshire Roads Alliance for further information.)
