Important Information About Council Services Affected by Storm Éowyn - Friday 24 January 2025
Following the red weather warning issued by the Met Office, the following Council services will be affected:
Schools
All South Ayrshire schools will be closed on Friday 24 January 2025. This includes all early years' centres, primary, secondary and special schools. All breakfast clubs, after school care and lets in school buildings and 3G pitches will also be cancelled.
It is expected that all schools and early years centres will be open on Monday 27 January as normal.
Bin Collections
All domestic and commercial bin collections and Special Uplifts on Friday 24 January 2025 are cancelled. Please do not put your bins out for collection.
Our Waste Management team will aim to collect any missed green (general waste), blue (metal recycling and plastics), purple (glass), grey (paper, card and cardboard), brown (garden waste) bins, and Special Uplifts on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 January. This will be subject to weather conditions.
If you can wait until your next scheduled collection date, please do so. If you can't wait, please put your bin out by 6am on Saturday 25 January and leave it out until it is collected.
Any missed food waste collections will be moved to your next scheduled collection date.
Any missed Commercial Waste collections will be carried out on Saturday 25 or Sunday 26 January.
All Household Waste Recycling Centres will be closed on Friday 24 January, and all bookings are cancelled. Customers who have bookings will be contacted directly.
Sport and Leisure Facilities
All South Ayrshire Council operated Sport, Leisure and Golf facilities will be closed on Friday 24 January.
This includes all leisure facilities, such as swimming pools, golf courses and grass and 3G pitches. All swimming lessons, gymnastics, fitness activities and pitch lets will also be cancelled.
It is expected that all leisure facilities, swimming pools, and golf courses will reopen at 10am on Saturday 25 January. Please note this will be subject to facility inspections to allow us to assess any impact or damage on the facilities and ensure they are safe for our customers.
We do not anticipate Lets in schools to be open until Monday 27 January.
3G pitches will also reopen on Monday 27 January.
Libraries, Museums & Galleries, Town Halls and Other Venues
Our libraries, museums and galleries, town halls and venues will be closed on Friday 24 January and reopen on Monday 27 January.
This includes:
• All libraries, including the mobile service
• Rozelle House Museum & Galleries and the Maclaurin Art Gallery
• Ayr and Maybole Town Halls*
• Troon Concert and Walker Halls
• The Cutty Sark Centre, Ayr High Street
• The Grain Exchange, Ayr High Street
• Heritage Hub - Ayr High Street
*We hope that Ayr and Maybole Town Halls will be open on Saturday 25 and Sunday 26 January for existing bookings only, and should be able to confirm this on Saturday morning.
Thriving Communities
All community centres operated by our Thriving Communities team, Dolphin House, The Wallace Tower, Carnegie Building (Maybole) and Carrick Opportunities Building (Girvan) will be closed on Friday 24 January and will reopen on Monday 27 January 2025.

Housing (homelessness)
Our Kyle Street Office (80-88 Kyle Street, Ayr) will be closed on Friday 24 January.

Emergency Repairs
Our Property Maintenance team will carry out emergency repairs only on Friday 24 January 2025, Emergency Repairs Only can be reported by calling 0300 123 0900.
For all other repairs, please contact the team on Monday 27 January from 8.45am.
Bereavement Services
All burials and cremations scheduled to take place on Friday 24 January have unfortunately been cancelled. Our thoughts are with the bereaved families affected. This is not a decision we have taken lightly and our Bereavement team will directly liaise with Funeral Directors and families to make alternative arrangements.
Public toilets
All public toilets (with the exception of the 24hr access facilities) will close at 7pm on Thursday 23 January and will re-open at 10am on Monday 27 January.
Parks and woodland
With high winds expected, fallen trees could be an issue. Please try to avoid heavily wooded areas, if possible.
Coast and beaches
The strong winds are likley to bring storm surges to our coastline. Please avoid visiting beaches, piers or the coastline wherever possible
