School estate - planning for improvement

Investment in schools

Through the capital investment programme we have made significant improvement to school buildings and learning environments for children and young people, teaching staff, school support staff and the wider community.

Examples of school investment

The delivery of the new Prestwick North Education Campus which opened its doors to pupils and  staff in August 22.  This exciting project brought together Glenburn Primary and St Ninian's Primary into one building delivering exciting teaching and shared learning facilities for both schools. In addition, the new Prestwick North Early Years Centre for 2 - 5 year old's opened at the same time co located on the old Glenburn Primary school site. An example of a major refurbishment was the relocation of Ayr Grammar Primary to the old Ayr Academy site in Fort Street. This successful and award-winning project was completed in January 21 delivering innovative learning spaces for the young people without losing the history of the original design. The project also delivered a modern Early Years Centre and Community facilities.

Future investment

Over the next two years, South Ayrshire Council will embark on its largest investment in the school estate transforming education for the community of Maybole and outlying villages. The Maybole Education Campus will open in August 23. The campus will deliver and co locate Carrick Academy, Culzean Primary which is an amalgamation of Gardenrose and Cairn Primary schools, St Cuthbert's Primary and Early Years provision. In addition, a state of the art leisure facility including a pool will also form part of the campus.
