South Ayrshire Council supports Scotland Loves Local Gift Card

Scotland Loves Local Gift Card

Businesses across South Ayrshire are being urged to sign up to scheme to keep spending local for longer.

South Ayrshire Council is backing the rollout of the new Scotland Loves Local Gift Card - powering the region's economic fightback from the COVID-19 pandemic.

Supported by the Scottish Government, Scotland Loves Local is the national initiative delivered by Scotland's Towns Partnership (STP), and is designed to encourage consumers to think local first.

South Ayrshire Council are working in partnership with STP and Scottish card operator Miconex to launch the regional gift card, with the first year of costs being met by the Scottish Government as part of its £10 million of support for Scotland Loves Local.

Businesses in South Ayrshire can now sign up to the scheme ahead of the gift card's formal launch at the end of October. There are no registration costs and payments are processed as part of the Mastercard network.

South Ayrshire Council's Portfolio Holder for Economy and Culture, Councillor Chris Cullen said "I'm delighted that we're supporting the Scotland Loves Local Gift Card scheme, which could make a difference in driving significant spending across our economy. The card will help to secure jobs and build a more sustainable, vibrant future for communities and people in South Ayrshire.

"It's the perfect way for people to show their support to local highstreets and shops following the COVID-19 pandemic, and I would encourage all businesses across the area to register for the scheme."
