Men can experience domestic abuse and violence from a partner or an ex-partner.

You can call the police if you have been placed in a state of fear and alarm, if you have been assaulted or sexually assaulted. Assault is a criminal offence and sexual assault is a crime even if you are married to or living with the person committing the offence. Police Scotland Domestic Abuse Unit can give support and information.

Abused Men in Scotland (AMIS) is a national organisation dedicated to supporting men who are experiencing, or who have experienced, domestic abuse. They can be contacted by telephoning 0808 800 0024.

Advice for men who abuse

Respect Phoneline provides information and advice for people who are people who are abusive towards their partners and want help to stop. They can be contacted by telephoning 0808 802 4040.

White Ribbon Scotland

White Ribbon Scotland is a campaign to involve men in tackling violence against women. It is a joint initiative by a coalition of organisations, individuals and groups of men around Scotland. The White Ribbon Scotland Campaign says:

'Most men in Scotland are not violent towards women, but many of us ignore the problem, or see it as something that has nothing to do with us. A simple first step you can take is to sign our personal pledge:

I pledge never to commit, condone or remain silent about men's violence against women.'
