South Ayrshire Council to Meet SSSC Costs for Lower Paid Employees

South Ayrshire Council will now meet the costs of registration to the Scottish Social Services Council (SSSC) for lower paid employees, following a decision at Cabinet on Tuesday 30 August.

The move demonstrates the Council's ongoing commitment to the Fair Pay Agenda in South Ayrshire, which was approved earlier in the year when the Living Wage was consolidated into the Council's pay model, and means the entry level is now more than the Scottish Living Wage.

The payment for fees will apply to employees at Level 5 and below, or a current hourly rate of up to £12.77, and will be effective immediately.

Councillor Ian Davis, South Ayrshire Council's Portfolio Holder for Finance, HR and ICT said: "We are continuing to work in partnership with the trade unions to make the Council a more attractive employer of choice.

"We recognise the dedication and commitment shown by our frontline staff, and I'm hopeful that by having SSSC costs met, it will remove the barrier to recruitment and improve retention of social services employees."
