When you register with South Ayrshire Council to take part in our Litter Picking Project you will need to provide us with some personal data.

What information we collect from you?

Your personal information will be used to set up access for you to our litter picking equipment containers which are located throughout South Ayrshire. You can access these containers by logging onto our website. The first time you log on you will be asked to provide personal data if you consent to take part in the Council's litter picking project. You will then be allocated an 'Access Code' which is required to open the storage container to access the litter picking equipment. On any future visits you wish  to litter pick, you will only need to input your email address to obtain the current 'Access Code' for the area you wish to litter pick in.

We will also use your information to contact you should the need arise, such as to follow up on missing equipment or damage.

What is the legal basis for processing (using) your personal data?

The legal basis for collecting your personal data is consent.  As we are processing your information based on your consent, you have the right to withdraw your consent, in whole or in part, at any time. The consequences of withdrawing your consent will be you can no longer volunteer for this project. Who we share your information with?

Your information will be held securely and will only be accessed by Neighbourhood Services staff. We will not share your personal information with anyone.

How long do we keep hold of your information?

We only keep your personal information for the minimum period amount of time necessary. Sometimes this time period is set out in the law, but in most cases it is based on the business need.  We will not keep your information for any longer than it is needed once the pandemic is over.

What are my rights?

Where you have provided your personal information through giving your consent for the purposes of applying to obtain an access code to a litter picking storage container, you do not have the right to object to the processing of your personal information. However, you do have the following rights and can ask us to:

  • erase your personal information;
  • correct your personal data if it is inaccurate;
  • complete your personal data if it is incomplete; or
  • restrict the processing of your personal information in certain circumstances.
