South Ayrshire Council has been shortlisted as a finalist at the Scottish Apprenticeship Awards in March 2023.
The Awards, organised by Skills Development Scotland, recognises the commitment and achievements of both apprentices and apprentice employers across Scotland. As a result of the dedication and investment in work-based learning and promotion of equality and diversity, we are proud to be shortlisted within the 'Large Employer of the Year - Promoting Diversity' category.
The Council's Modern Apprenticeship programme is organised by our Thriving Communities team, who work closely with services across the organisation including Property Maintenance; Ayrshire Roads Alliance; Health and Social Care Partnership; Sport and Leisure; South Ayrshire Golf; and Social Services Children and Young People - Early Years. The commitment of all service areas involved ensures that we can provide a wealth of development and career opportunities.
South Ayrshire Council's Portfolio Holder for Economic Development, Councillor Bob Pollock said: "This nomination is a fantastic achievement and is a reflection of the dedication that the Council has to provide a range of experience for both young people and those seeking a new career path.
"The modern apprenticeship programme allows a breadth of knowledge and skills to be gained from business and administration, craft trade and social services to roads maintenance, youth work and horticulture, and is an excellent pathway for anyone that is not wanting to go into further education. Due to the variety of service areas across the Council that are involved, individuals' skills are attractive to local employers, which in turn helps our economy.
"I'd like to thank Thriving Communities and all of the service areas for providing these invaluable opportunities which are also breaking down barriers by promoting equality and diversity."
The Awards will take place during Scottish Apprenticeship Week (6-10 March 2023), when the winners will be announced.
