The official opening of the new Sacred Heart Primary School was held recently, following the school opening its doors to pupils in September last year.

Pupils, parents, carers and staff celebrated the official opening alongside Leader of South Ayrshire Council, Councillor Martin Dowey; South Ayrshire's Provost Iain Campbell; South Ayrshire Council's Portfolio Holder for Education, Councillor Stephen Ferry; local Elected Members and the Very Reverend John A Canon McGee.

South Ayrshire Council's Chief Executive, Eileen Howat, and Education Directors also attended with representatives for the construction and design team responsible for the school.

Attendees enjoyed an evening of music, a variety of performances, and a film depicting the story of the school from past to present and through the construction phase of the new building. Councillor Stephen Ferry also unveiled a school plaque which commemorates the official opening ceremony.

The new two-storey school, which accommodates up to 125 pupils, features interactive learning areas; a nurture room; a general-purpose room; and a multi-use dining and PE hall. Pupils are also benefitting from the new sensory garden; a traversing wall; active play areas; teaching, dining and social spaces; and an enclosed games area for ball sports.

Councillor Stephen Ferry, South Ayrshire Council's Portfolio Holder for Education said: "I was delighted to attend the official opening ceremony for the new Sacred Heart Primary School and to be able to showcase the fantastic transformation from the old school building.

"The opportunities the new school offers will be so important when it comes to supporting learning, teaching and the development of our young people in the school, for many years to come.

The facility also builds on our already outstanding school estate in South Ayrshire, and reinforces our commitment to ensuring children and young people have the best start in life."
