South Ayrshire pupils enjoy traditional Burns Supper experience!

Primary 7 pupils from schools across South Ayrshire visited Ayr Town Hall on Thursday 2 March to experience a traditional Burns Supper.
The 21st Annual Schools' Burns Supper was organised and funded by the Alloway Burns Club in collaboration with South Ayrshire Council's Central Education Team.
The day was split into two events: the first for pupils who will attend Carrick Academy, Girvan Academy, Marr College, or Prestwick Academy; the second for pupils who will attend Ayr Academy, Belmont Academy, Kyle Academy, or Queen Margaret Academy.
Pupils were given the full traditional Burns Supper experience and enjoyed some haggis as well as a healthy selection of entertainment. Talented young people delighted their peers with displays of singing, dancing, and playing instruments. Some modern Scots poetry was heard along with Burns Supper staples like 'Address to the Haggis' and 'To a Mouse'.
Senior pupils from South Ayrshire secondary schools joined each table to guide the P7s through the day, and showed them how to toast the haggis, Robert Burns, and the Lads and the Lassies by raising a glass of Irn Bru.
As an added bonus, P7 pupils were able to meet some of their future secondary school classmates on the day.
Councillor Stephen Ferry, Education portfolio holder for South Ayrshire Council said: "It's wonderful to see children in South Ayrshire appreciating and carrying forward the traditions that are close to our hearts - and getting to meet their new high school classmates while doing so! I'd like to extend a huge thanks to the Alloway Burns Club for making such a successful event possible!"
