Kirkmichael and Straiton Primary Schools and their Early Years Centres celebrated 'World of Work Day' on Friday 16 June.

Straiton Primary School was the venue for the event which seeks to inspire the workforce of tomorrow.

There were lots of organisations there on the day including the tourism and hospitality sectors, the emergency services, Council departments and those involved in agriculture.

Councillor Stephen Ferry, Education Portfolio Holder for South Ayrshire Council said: "This was a great event, which got the children thinking about what they want to do when they're older but in a fun way. It was also good for the parents and carers to speak to some of the organisations to find out about the type of qualifications needed to progress in a particular sector. Well done to the organisers and a big thank you to all the attendees that made 'World of Work Day' a success.

Andrew Hislop joint Head Teacher said: "Both schools are keen to bring learning to life and give our young people fun and meaningful learning experiences. We asked each employer to inspire the children and demonstrate the skills and qualities needed to be successful in their line of work through some fun activities. A huge thanks to all and particularly Lynne Peacock from the Scottish Ambulance Service."

The chair of the Straiton Parent Council, Isla Hardy said: "The school has never held an event like this, and it was just brilliant to see everyone so engaged. Everyone appeared to have lots of fun, and we all learned something from the activities. Was just a super day."
