South Ayrshire Council has announced that Spirit AeroSystems is confirmed as a major sponsor for the brand-new International Ayr Show - Festival of Flight.

Spirit AeroSystems, whose Scottish base is situated at Glasgow-Prestwick airport, is one of the world's largest manufacturers of aerostructures for commercial airplanes, defence platforms, and business/regional jets.

The company, who employ just under 1000 people at their Prestwick site, is dedicated to STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics), which aligns with the objectives of the festival.

Scott McLarty, SVP Airbus and Regional Business Jet Programs said: "Spirit AeroSystems' sponsorship of the International Ayr Show - Festival of Flight demonstrates a commitment to both the local community and the aerospace industry. The air show is sure to be an exciting event that draws people of all ages to the local area, providing a boost to the economy and showcasing the wonders of aviation. There will also be a strong emphasis on STEM outreach throughout the event. This is an excellent opportunity to inspire and engage young minds in the field of aerospace, fostering a passion for these subjects and potentially sparking interest in future careers within the industry. Community projects like the International Ayr Show - Festival of Flight not only bring people together but also contribute to the growth and development of the region. Spirit's involvement demonstrates our responsibility to the community and the desire to make a positive impact".

The International Ayr Show - Festival of Flight will come to Ayr shore front from Friday 8 - Sunday 10 September this year.  The action-packed weekend is set to wow crowds with impressive aerial displays and some fantastic family entertainment and activities.

South Ayrshire Council's Portfolio Holder for Tourism, Culture and Rural Affairs, Councillor Alec Clark said: "I'm delighted that Spirit AeroSystems have decided to sponsor The International Ayr Show - Festival of Flight.  The company has bases all over the world and I'm sure their support will help put South Ayrshire on the map as host to the spectacular event we're bringing to Ayr this September.  The promotion of STEM is a key factor of the festival and Spirit is clearly dedicated to raising awareness of the benefits of studying for a future career in this field."

South Ayrshire Council's Portfolio Holder for Sport and Leisure, Councillor Brian Connolly, said: "Spirit AeroSystems is a global leader in aerostructures design and manufacturing, so it's a privilege to have the company join us as a major event sponsor for the brand-new air show.  Spirit's presence at the event itself will provide a superb opportunity for young people to get a taste of what a career in the aerospace industry could look like for them."

Leader of South Ayrshire Council, Councillor Martin Dowey, said: "It's brilliant news that Spirit AeroSystems have recognised the value The International Ayr Show - Festival of Flight will bring to the area and want to play a part in it. We're edging ever closer to the festival and their sponsorship comes at an exciting time as preparations are well underway for what's going to be a thrilling weekend in September."
