National Sports Championships coming to Kyle Academy

Beach Volleyball Championships

Kyle Academy is set to play host to the 2023 Scottish Beach Volleyball Junior National Championships. The prestigious event will be held at the school's inland beach courts over the weekend of 26th and 27th August.

The competition will see the best young beach players in the country face off to be crowned national champions in two age categories, Under 18 and Under 22. The boys will battle it out on the courts on the Saturday, followed by the girls on Sunday.

This is the first time these National Championships will be held in Ayr and strong entries are expected from local club West Coast Beach, including Belmont Academy pupils Sasha Clegg and Iona Bell who have just returned from the Youth Commonwealth Games in Trinidad & Tobago, where they finished in an impressive 7 th place.

Kyle Academy was previously the venue for the preliminary qualifying rounds for the 2024 Olympics Beach Volleyball.

South Ayrshire Council Director of Strategic Change and Communities, Jane Bradley, said:

"South Ayrshire Council is once again delighted to be working with Scottish Volleyball to host another competition at our beach volleyball facilities at Kyle Academy. We wish all involved a fantastic weekend of sporting competition."

Interim Beach Performance Manager for Scottish Volleyball Blair Pettigrew said:

"We are delighted to be hosting this event for the first time at Kyle Academy, it's the best facility in Scotland, if not the UK, and gives our best young players a great platform to go out and perform. It's been a huge year for our sport and I expect the competition to be fierce, with athletes already looking forward to selection to next year's age group events."
