Belleisle Golf Course could soon see some exciting design proposals developed to enhance its current practice area, following approval at Cabinet today.

The designs would be developed to compliment the £5 million investment in our golf courses to ensure they continue to attract golfers from South Ayrshire and beyond, for many years to come.

Enhancing the current practice facilities will provide an opportunity to engage the next generation of golfers through formal and informal coaching programmes, as well as serving the needs of current golfers to fine tune their golf skills.

Improvements to the practice facilities will also allow for high-profile events to be held at Belleisle, further enhancing the great reputation the course has within the golfing community.

A consultation will soon take place where the public can provide their feedback on the proposals for Belleisle, including plans to undertake the largest modernisation of the course since it was built almost 100 years ago.

Councillor Brian Connolly, South Ayrshire Council's Portfolio Holder for Sport and Leisure said: "I'm delighted that proposals to progress with the designs were approved. We want to be able to provide our customers with a year-round playing experience and make sure that golf is affordable and accessible to everyone.

"It's an exciting development as it will provide the opportunity for us to reconfigure a number of holes around the course, and I look forward to seeing the finalised plans. I would encourage anyone with an interest in golf to take part in the consultation when it opens."

This decision is subject to any call-ins (decisions can be called in for scrutiny by other Councillors prior to implementation).
