South Ayrshire Achieves Top Results for Positive School Leaver Destinations

NEWS UPDATED

South Ayrshire Council are committed to ensuring that school leavers have the necessary skills and are fully supported in order to move on to positive destinations, and we are delighted that our performance has been placed in the top 5 local authorities for another year.

The recent School Leaver Destination Report (SLDR) recorded an outstanding 98.1% of pupils across South Ayrshire progressing from school to a positive destination, with the national average at 95.9%.

South Ayrshire Council's Portfolio Holder for Education, Councillor Stephen Ferry, said: "The recent result from the School Leaver Destination Report highlights our dedication in supporting young people across South Ayrshire. I'm delighted that we have once again been ranked in the top 5, placed 4th out of 32 local authorities.

"Leaving school is both an exciting and at times, daunting, prospect for young people and it's crucial that they are fully supported to discover their options and realise potential. Our Education and Thriving Communities teams work hard to ensure that there are a range of opportunities available and provide first-class guidance and advice on how young people can achieve their best."

South Ayrshire Council's Portfolio Holder for Economic Development, Councillor Bob Pollock, said: "Once again I'm proud of our performance on what is an incredibly important stage in young peoples' lives. Helping anyone, especially young people, find the right path in life is a big responsibility and this result is testament that our staff are doing their utmost to fulfil this.

"Of course, achieving this result couldn't be done without the partnership working of our staff with Ayrshire College and Skills Development Scotland, all of whom strive to build positive working relationships, ensuring that our young people are ready to start the next chapter in their lives."
