27th March 2025 - Prestwick Leisure Club - Update on progress of works
South Ayrshire Council can confirm that works to transform Prestwick Leisure Club are being extended.
The project has been ongoing since August last year, and a new roof has already been installed with solar panels and the external blockwork is being built up to roof height. Works are continuing on replacing additional steelwork, repairing the internal walls, and installing an innovative Air Handling Ventilation System.
When complete, the building will also have an increased water supply along with improved water storage.
Recently, the decision was made to completely refurbish the changing rooms into a changing village, so this means the facility is now expected to open in August this year.
While the improvements are ongoing, Club Fitness members from Prestwick Leisure Centre have been able to access the gym and pool at the Citadel Leisure Centre in Ayr, Troon Leisure Club and Maybole Leisure Club as part of the standard membership.
All fitness equipment from Prestwick has been temporarily relocated to Whitletts Activity Centre and is available to anyone with a current Council Sport and Leisure membership. More details can be found at https://www.south-ayrshire.gov.uk/article/78435/Whitletts-Pop-up-Gym
Councillor Brian Connolly, South Ayrshire Council's Portfolio Holder for Sport and Leisure said: "I'm delighted with the progress so far at Prestwick Leisure Club. We're committed to providing our customers with first class sport and leisure facilities, and the decision to expand the changing rooms into a changing village will make a huge difference to members. We really appreciate customers patience while works are ongoing, and I'm looking forward to the facility reopening later this summer."
Councillor Martin Kilbride, South Ayrshire Council's Portfolio Holder for Buildings, Housing and Environment said: "The installation of a new roof with solar panels and the Air Handling Ventilation System is a key step in enhancing the sustainability of Prestwick Leisure Club. This project not only modernises the facility, but also reduces its environmental impact, aligning with our commitment to energy efficiency and reducing carbon emissions."
Councillor Alec Clark, South Ayrshire Council's Portfolio Holder for Tourism, Culture and Rural Affairs said: "The ongoing improvements at Prestwick Leisure Club will not only benefit local residents but will also enhance the overall appeal of the area for visitors. I'm pleased that we're able to offer a top-tier leisure experience that further elevates South Ayrshire as a great place to visit and stay."
