'Reflections on Troon' Art Exhibition Now on Display

Senior pupils from Marr College in Troon have created an outdoor art exhibition, which represents their town and civic pride.

The exhibition, 'Reflections on Troon', is the result of a collaboration between South Ayrshire Council's Communities and Transformation and Education service areas and brings an opportunity for S6 pupils studying Advanced Higher Art to engage in a project which showcases the town.

Located at The Cabin next to Troon Library, the artwork will be on display until Tuesday 23 July 2024.

With Troon set to host the 152^nd Open Championship from 14-21 July, the exhibition is in a prime spot to welcome visitors from all over the world.

South Ayrshire Council's Director of Communities and Transformation, Jane Bradley said: "I'm delighted that we were able to go ahead with this exhibition and in time for The Open arriving in Troon. The town will see a significant number of spectators at the Championship and the display highlights the best of Troon and the local area.

"To be able to engage with local pupils from Marr College makes this exhibition even more special as it represents the community with a clear sense of pride. The standard of artwork produced is exemplary and all pieces capture the essence of the town."

Marr College Headteacher, George Docherty said: "It was an honour to be able to give our S6 pupils the opportunity to work on such a high-profile project. All of the pupils involved showed immense enthusiasm and their finished pieces demonstrate outstanding talent. I'd like to thank our Principal Teacher of Art and Design, Heather Brown, and our Design and Technology Technician, John Wright, for the invaluable guidance and support given to the pupils throughout this project.

"It's not an easy task to be able to truly reflect a town through art, especially as many eyes will be on Troon this summer. I look at the exhibition and I'm immensely proud of what each pupil has achieved."
