Jet Pitts aerobatic aircraft named as STEM display for 2024 airshow

Richard Goodwin and his Jet Pitts aerobatic display aircraft will appear at the International Ayr Show - Festival of Flight on Friday 6 and Saturday 7 September.

This aircraft is truly one of a kind.  Registered as G-JPIT, it has been specially built from scratch by Richard over a period of four years and is based on the Pitts S2S.

The propeller powered biplane incorporates two jet engines on the side. Its larger ailerons and increased wing area give the aircraft a phenomenal roll rate and better low speed handling.

These design and engineering changes will enable the former RAF F3 Tornado fighter pilot to create a display that defies the normal flight characteristics of a conventional biplane.

One particularly impressive element of the display to look out for, is when Richard pulls the aircraft up into a vertical hold and the two jet engines keep the aircraft from falling to the ground. When this happens, the whole aircraft will keep spinning in the air due to the still rotating propeller!

South Ayrshire Council's Portfolio Holder for Tourism, Culture and Rural Affairs, Councillor Alec Clark said: "It's fantastic to be able to announce the Jet Pitts as this year's STEM display at the airshow.  This biplane shows exactly what can be achieved through engineering expertise and determination to create something different with fantastic results."
