Airshow Battle of Britain Memorial Flight to feature Lancaster

NEWS UPDATED

The Battle of Britain Memorial Flight (BBMF) are a fleet of World War Two aircraft preserved in flying condition as a living tribute to the service men and women that flew, maintained and built them. They also serve to promote the modern-day Royal Air Force and to inspire future generations. Earlier this year we were allocated the Hurricane, Spitfire and Lancaster to display in the BBMF at the airshow.

In May one of the pilots, Sqn Ldr Mark Long, lost his life in a tragic accident while flying one of the BBMF Spitfire aircraft.  Whilst investigations into the crash are ongoing, the Spitfire and Hurricane aircraft remain grounded.

However, we can confirm that the Lancaster Bomber has been granted flying status and will join us at next month's International Ayr Show - Festival of Flight.

As we approach the airshow, we send our thoughts to Sqn Leader Long's family, friends and all at the BBMF.
