Fit For the Road event helps drivers hone their skills

Fit for the Road 2024 400 x 400

Experienced drivers got the chance to brush up on their driving knowledge and receive advice from road safety professionals at an event organised by Ayrshire Roads Alliance.

The free 'Fit for the Road' event, held at Largs Sailing Club, involved presentations from Police Scotland, the Royal Society for the Prevention of Accidents (RoSPA) and a local optician. Guests also got to try the online Highway Code Theory and Hazard Perception tests, watch a demonstration of CPR and defibrillation by Scottish Fire and Rescue, and visit various information stands.

Local members of RoSPA Advanced Drivers and IAM Roadsmart carried out assessed drives in the driver's own vehicle on the day too.

Councillor Bob Pollock, Economic Development Portfolio Holder for South Ayrshire Council said: "Events like this give even the most experienced drivers the opportunity to test themselves and get up to date with the latest road safety information. I am sure everyone attending appreciated the efforts of all the organisers."
