Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need an access permit to access my street?

Please review tellmescotland to see if your street is affected. If your street is listed on the Temporary Traffic Regulation Order (TTRO), then yes, permits will be required for residents to gain access.

How many permits will be provided?

Two per address.

Can I get more permits?

Permits are strictly limited to two per address, however if there is a specific reason that you require more permits, please email with details  ayrshowcommunity@south-ayrshire.gov.uk and your request will be reviewed. 

Can anyone access a road closure?

No - they must have an access permit.

Will businesses be allowed to access premises?

Businesses (except for those based in Bath Place, Pavilion Rd or Wellington Square) will be able to access their premises by vehicle for a short time.  They will be able to park if car parks are available at the property. Access will be granted by traffic marshals or security personnel.

For Bath Place and Wellington Square please try to access business premises before 2.30 pm on Friday 6 Sept and before 10 am or after 8 pm on Saturday 7 Sept.  If you have any questions about this, please contact  ayrshowcommunity@south-ayrshire.gov.uk

What about doctor and dentist properties still have access?

Yes - parking will be available for all health appointments. All medical practices will have been engaged with in terms of access for patients.

Will visitors be allowed to access my property?

If your property has a driveway, vehicles will be able to enter using the permit system and park in the driveway. While parked in the driveway they do not need to display a permit. However, if vehicles are parking on the street (where the TTRO allows) they must display a permit at all times.  A maximum of two permits will be provided to each household. This cannot be increased to accommodate visitors.

Can I photocopy an access permit?

No.

What about supermarket food shopping deliveries?

All delivery vehicles will be granted access with proof of address for delivery, except Bath Place and Wellington Square.

Bath Place and Wellington Square deliveries should be arranged before 2.30 pm on Friday 6 Sept and before 10am or after 8pm on Saturday 7 Sept.

Will food delivery drivers be able to access my street?

Yes - if the drivers can show the security at the entrance of the streets the address on their phone, they will be granted access.

 Will social care nursing be able to access the road closures to gain access to residential properties?

Yes - all social care staffing must show their photo ID. Once approved by security they will be granted access. Care access will not be denied.

I own an Air BnB - where will my guests park?

If the Air BnB is an area affected by road closures, then it is the property owner's responsibility to ensure that the appropriate access permits are provided for guests. If the road is closed for residents' access only - then the security will ask for access permits before allowing vehicles to enter the street.

What about my B n B guests/ Hotel Guests - where will they park?

At the road closure, guests should show their confirmation booking and enter the street. The hotel/ B n B must then provide a permit pass for the next day.

Will my business be able to have deliveries access the property?

Yes.

The access to road closure roads will be managed by security and traffic management. It is important that all delivery drivers have proof of address for the delivery to be granted access. Deliveries should be organised to arrive before 10 am each morning of the Festival of Flight as the road network may be busy.

Do I have to move my car from Wellington Square?

Yes, for security reasons, you will have to move your car to Charlotte Street Car Park by 10 am on Friday morning.  

Can I attend a medical appointment if the practice is within road closures?

Yes - please explain to the security and the practice will be able to provide a permit once you arrive to place in your vehicle. The permit must be handed back to the practice once your appointment is finished.

What do I do if someone is parked illegally in my street or blocking my drive?

On the days of the event, please call 07301431196 or 07777438726   and we will contact Parking attendants and Police Scotland.

Will there be Parking Attendants working on the day?

Yes, parking attendants will be working both days and evenings.  If someone parks on a closed street, they will be issued a ticket.  If they do not move after a short time, they may also be towed, resulting in a £200 fine to retrieve the vehicle.  

I think my car might have been towed?

In the first instance, please call Police Scotland on 101.  They will have details of all the cars which have been towed and details of what to do next.

 Will there be more toilets in the festival village this year?

Yes, we have doubled the number of toilets and improved our methods of managing them.

What should I do if I see something suspicious?

Please call 101 and report any concerns you may have.
