South Ayrshire Council is pleased to confirm that our 'Town Centre Team' initiative is back for 2025!
The programme was established by our Thriving Communities - Employability service in 2021 to support trainees who are facing barriers to employment to develop a wide range of skills.
Participants work directly with our Waste Management team to make a range of street cleansing improvements to town centres across South Ayrshire. This includes activities such as litter picking, pressure washing, street sweeping, graffiti removal, and weeding.
So far, groups of young people have been transforming the town centres in Girvan and Maybole on a weekly basis, and teams will be established in Prestwick and Troon later in the year.
Councillor Alec Clark, South Ayrshire Council's Portfolio Holder for Tourism, Culture and Rural Affairs said: "This is a fantastic initiative and I'm delighted that it's being expanded in 2025 to make a difference to every area in South Ayrshire.
"It really is great to see our young people being encouraged and supported to take pride in their surroundings, with the added bonus of learning new skills to help them into the world of work.
"Our Waste Management team work tirelessly to keep South Ayrshire in pristine condition for residents and visitors, and with the help of the Town Centre Team, they can really focus on areas that are in need of some TLC. And it's not just our town centres that will benefit, as this frees up our 'Locality HIT Squad' to spend time improving our more rural villages too. It's a win-win for everyone involved!"
