Primary 6 pupils compete in South Ayrshire heats for annual Euroquiz competition

The South Ayrshire heats of the annual Euroquiz competition were held today (Tuesday 1 April) at Ayr Town Hall.
Organised by Scotland's National Centre for Languages, Euroquiz is an annual competition which sees Primary 6 pupils from across Scotland compete to test their knowledge of geography and history, languages, European affairs, and general knowledge.
The competition encourages pupils to work collaboratively and emphasises the importance of learning about other languages and cultures. Taking part also helps to promote inter-disciplinary learning and develops a range of core skills such as team working and communication.
The South Ayrshire heats were hosted by Mark Pentleton, Owner of Coffee Break Languages.
S5 and S6 Language Ambassadors from Marr College, Prestwick Academy, Carrick Academy and Queen Margaret Academy also attended on the day to assist with the running of the competition.
The team from Kingcase Primary School were the overall winners of the heats and Troon Primary School were the runners up.
The team from Kingcase Primary School will go on to compete against winning teams from all other local authority areas in the National Euroquiz Final being held in Glasgow this June.
Councillor William Grant, South Ayrshire Council's Portfolio Holder for Education said:
"Learning about other languages and cultures is invaluable for our young people and it's fantastic to see their enthusiasm in taking part in this competition.
"I'd like to congratulate the winning team from Kingcase Primary School - and wish them good luck for the final!"
