Bonfire and Fireworks Displays - Licence requirements

Any bonfire or fireworks displays which are open to the public, whether free or for payment, require to be licensed in terms of the Council's Public Entertainment resolution under the Civic Government (Scotland) Act 1982. If you are planning a bonfire or fireworks display, please get in touch with Licensing at [email protected] to discuss your event.

As part of the licensing process, we will consult with a number of agencies including Police Scotland,  Scottish Fire and Rescue Service, NHS Ayrshire and Arran and other Council departments including Estates, Environmental Health and Building Standards.

We welcome early contact with organisers and please note we require a minimum of 28 days to process an application.

Further details of the licensing process, along with the application form, can be found at Public Entertainment licence.

The fee for a temporary Public Entertainment Licence is £222 and there are exceptions for the payment of the fee for charitable and community events.

If you notice any unlicensed bonfire build-ups in your area, please let us know.  You can report these by calling 0300 123 0900 or by emailing [email protected].  Email reports will be monitored and responded to during normal office hours (Monday - Thursday 08:45 - 16:45 and Friday 08:45 - 16:00).
