St Patrick's Become First South Ayrshire Primary to Receive Scottish Languages Employability Award

St Patrick's Primary in Troon has recently been awarded the Silver Scottish Languages Employability Award (SLEA) making them the first primary school in South Ayrshire to achieve this recognition.

Presented by Scotland's National Centre for Languages (SCILT), this award recognises the school's project 'From Troon to the World' which explores how the local community regularly connects with audiences from across the globe.

Pupils were able to gain valuable insight into how local businesses from sectors such as hospitality, tourism and media communicate using languages when welcoming visitors to the local area. The project also helped the young people understand the importance of language, culture and global connections within their hometown of Troon.

Delivered in partnership with STV, the Marine Hotel in Troon and Royal Troon Golf Club, the 'From Troon to the World' project was praised by the judges for its ambitious, whole-school approach to language learning and employability.

The judging panel highlighted the strong leadership of the Primary 7 Languages Ambassadors and the projects positive impact in raising awareness of the importance of languages for future careers. The award will remain valid until June 2028 and highlight's the schools ongoing commitment to innovation in languages learning across South Ayrshire.
